The International Journal of Chinese Character Studies (“The IJCCS,” 世界漢字通報 Shijie Hanzi Tongbao; ISSN 2384-3152) is a peer-reviewed international academic journal. It is hosted and edited by the World Association of Chinese Characters Studies (hereafter “WACCS,” 世界漢字學會 Shijie Hanzi Xuehui) and published in partnership with WACCS.
Aims & Scope: The IJCCS is dedicated to exploring the impact of Chinese characters on East Asian languages and cultures. For more details on our research focus, please see the 'Aims & Scope' section in our website’s navigation menu.
Publication History: Since its establishment in 2015, The IJCCS has shown a commitment to academic excellence and continuity. Initially, two issues were published in its founding year, followed by one issue in 2016 before temporarily suspending publication. After a hiatus from 2017 to 2019, the journal resumed publication in 2020 with one issue and has since been published semi-annually on June 30 and December 30 each year.
Submission: The IJCCS accepts submissions of various types of papers including research articles, review articles, book reviews, notes, and letters. The journal focuses on topics related to Chinese characters and their culture, such as the introduction of newly unearthed materials, annotated translations, studies of Chinese character civilization and cultural contents, Chinese character education, and Sino-Xenic words. It also covers research trends in these fields. All papers are to be submitted in English via the Online Submission System (submission.waccs.info/Login).
Author Fees: There are no fees required for submission, review, or publication in The IJCCS.
Subscription: The IJCCS is a semi-annual publication with issues available on June 30 and December 30 each year. Those interested in print subscriptions can order copies by contacting the editorial office via email at ijccs@naver.com. Institutional subscriptions are available for KRW 100,000 domestically and USD 110 internationally, while individual subscriptions cost KRW 50,000 domestically and USD 55 internationally. Additionally, electronic access to the journal is provided free of charge.
Direct Marketing: The IJCCS actively promotes its presence through its official website, by disseminating promotional materials at World Association of Chinese Characters Studies conferences, and through targeted emails that encourage manuscript submissions.
Advertisement: Our journal currently does not accept advertisements. We focus solely on providing high-quality academic content without the influence of commercial interests. Should we decide to accept advertisements in the future, we will only accept those from reputable entities that align with our readership's interests and do not compromise human health and welfare. Advertisements will be subject to approval by our editorial board and the publisher, and must promote information and technologies relevant to our audience.
